Organic Café Opens at Hagley

Wilmington, Delaware- August 2010-  Hagley Museum and Library and Chef Dan Butler, owner of Toscana Kitchen + Bar, Deep Blue Bar and Grill, and Toscana to Go, have announced a new opportunity for on-site food service at the museum and library. As Hagley’s exclusive on-site caterer, Butler brings his expertise and creative vision to the Belin House Organic Café and Hagley’s special events.
There is a natural connection between Hagley and Dan Butler.  As a child, Butler roamed the Hagley grounds, exploring the old mills, canoeing in the river, and playing ice hockey on the Brandywine.  “The breathtaking grounds, the beautiful restoration of the buildings, and the fascinating and important history combine to make Hagley a world class attraction,” explains Butler. “I am excited to bring food service to the museum and library that matches that potential.”
Hagley Executive Director Geoff Halfpenny says that the decision to work with Butler was an easy one to make. “Dan and his staff understand Hagley’s mission and share our values to provide the highest-quality products and service for our visitors.  His reputation is sterling and his commitment to great food opens an exciting chapter at Hagley.”
With seasonal menus that feature simple prepared fare, the Belin House Organic Café will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Interested diners may access the café via Hagley Museum’s main entrance on Route 141 and obtain a special café pass. The Belin House Organic Café is a counter-service style, gourmet eatery located on Workers’ Hill at Hagley Museum and Library.
The agreement with Butler also includes catering for Hagley’s special events business, which in recent years has expanded to include weddings and social functions.  Hagley members may host their “Chateau Country Wedding,” in the Soda House or Library and use the historic E. I. du Pont Garden as the backdrop for their wedding photography.
Hagley Museum and Library collects, preserves, and interprets the unfolding history of American enterprise. Hagley is located on Route 141 in Wilmington, Delaware. Admission to the 235-acre museum site is $11 for adults, $9 for students and senior citizens, $4 for children six to fourteen, and free for children five and under. For more information, call (302) 658-2400 weekdays or visit www.hagley.org.
